Appassionata Estate
Appassionata Estate began as a passion project for Erni Loosen. Erni's lifelong passion for exploring the world's great Pinot Noirs led him to Oregon almost three decades ago. Through numerous visits, collecting wines and forging friendships, he realized something special was happening in the Willamette Valley and began to dream of making wine there himself.
But Erni is not one to be content with dreams. In 2005, he started a small, collaborative project with J. Christopher Wines and bottled a very carefully selected, highly limited Pinot Noir, which he named Appassionata. A few vintages later, he put down permanent roots in Oregon, acquiring 40 hectares in the Chehalem Mountains, planting the Appassionata Vineyard, and building the winery.

The second movement, Andante (gentle, without haste), is aged longer in our cellar after bottling and released five years after the harvest. Produced with the same patience and restraint, this bottling was chosen to emphasize elegance and refinement – a style reflected in Beethoven's own performance instruction for this movement: “Piano e Dolce” (gentle and sweet).
The entry-level Appassionata Pinot Noir takes its name from the first movement of the piano sonata – Allegro – reflecting the musical tempo of a brisk walk. This cuvée is a selection of barrels exhibiting early vibrancy and expressiveness, making it enjoyable as a young wine but also suitable for aging. It is bottled after 18 to 20 months in the barrel and released three years after the harvest. The Allegro Pinot Noir beautifully displays the beginnings of bottle aging and will age elegantly for many years.
